ENERGY STUDY OF REGENERATIVE BRAKING OF E-RICKSHAWS USING BRUSHLESS DC MOTORS

With rising costs of petrol and diesel, Electric Vehicles are becoming popular in cities like Delhi for chartered vehicles such as the E-Rickshaw. This paper studies the energy that can be regenerated from such an E-Rickshaw during normal operation. The paper was written in 2017 while I was interning at an E-Rickshaw factory, GreenRick. The mathematical model developed in the paper was used to calculate the energy produced in braking operations at various speeds by recording initial velocity and time taken to come to a stop.

19.5kW SOLAR PHOTO-VOLTAIC PLANT AT DEEPASHRAM, GURGAON

Deepashram is a special-needs home for boys in my city, Gurgaon. Deepashram is funded by volunteers and donors who contribute in terms of paying for meals or donating food, rations, clothes, medicines, other necessities and also time. With summer approaching, knowing the erratic power supply to expect, Father Timothy was concerned about the feasibility, cost and pollution of running their generators for extended periods of time. I proposed to Deepashram to install solar panels on their roof, taking advantage of their flat roofs and minimal cloud cover. I did a feasibility study during my Summer Vacations and realised the project was possible. With the help of Manuel and James, parishioners at my local church, I raised Rs. 15 lakh and installed the 19.5kW setup on the roof.

DESIGN, FABRICATION AND TESTING OF THE SOLAR POWERED AIR IONIZER (SPAI)

The Solar Powered Air Ionizer, also known as the SPAI, is a self-built negative air ionizer powered by solar energy. The beauty of the SPAI lies in the fact that unlike all commercially available air ionizers, it is self sufficient and does not leave behind any pollutants while purifying the air. We studied the effects of our model on the air quality of a room and later analysed the performance of a scaled up version in open spaces.

SPACE SETTLEMENT DESIGN COMPETITIONS

The space settlement design competition is an industry simulation for kids in school. The competition has Qualifiers, Indian Nationals, Asian Regionals and the World Finals. At each stage, school are paired together in teams of 60 to construct a settlement to satisfy the request for proposal (RFP) given by the competition, The Foundation Society. Our school made it through the Qualifiers and National Round to represent India at the Asian Regionals. In the process, our teams made three documents which can be found below:
